How We do It.
Volunteering In Chazon Africa
Volunteers play a very important role at Chazon Africa, bringing wonderful skills and energy to our organisation making a difference to the lives of many.
What does it mean to be a volunteer? What motivates me to be an international volunteer? Am I prepared and trained to be?
At Chazon we understand the international volunteer program as a method of awareness and learning to break down stereotypes and preconceived ideas. Collaborating directly with the local project, in a respectful way, working as a team, dialoguing and internalizing the ways of doing the local culture, the volunteer becomes an agent of change upon his return.
To do this, we look for committed people, willing to learn and train before the trip, open-minded, with critical vision and who want to collaborate from humility, empathy and with ease of adaptation to change.
Chazon is a project that is founded, maintained, and advances throughout the year with highly trained workers in the area who, observing some problems present in their society, decide to take action to change it. Therefore, the work of the volunteer in the field focuses on support and reinforcement tasks to those currently being developed.
The main purpose is to know about their reality and accept the differences, breaking apart with the ethnocentric vision so common in Western culture. Adding, as much as possible, our strength to their work, but accepting our secondary role within a project that arises from and for the population of Molo.
In this way, the most important moment occurs when the volunteer returns home with reinforced knowledge and with transformed social and cultural attitudes that perpetuate human inequalities, promoting social justice.
Chazon Africa proposes volunteering as a means for people to broaden their vision so that, when they return, they can continue to work on their day-to-day basis to fight agains global structural inequality.
If you feel identified with our way of seeing volunteering and want to become a field Chazhon volunteer, we suggest you have a look at a series of documents before you travel to Molo.

Volunteer FAQs
Volunteering’ essentially is an act of service – where one can get engaged with meaningful work and donate their time, skills, and energy to uplift others. Chazon Africa volunteer program includes traveling to Kenya, to spend some quality time with the children at chazon childrens’ centre and their families, also getting involved in the various projects available in Chazon Africa, with the zeal to make a difference. This also creates a platform for cultural exchange, enables the volunteers to gain first-hand work experience, and understand the problems that exist Kenya –
If you’re interested in becoming a Chazon Africa volunteer, send us an email or sign up to our volunteer programs newsletter and we will get in-touch with you.
We encourage anybody who wants to volunteer with CHAZON AFRICA to fill out an application form. We do not discriminate against somebody based on race, religion, sexual orientation, gender, or socio-economic status. We strive to support volunteers as best we can, and to place them in roles that match their abilities. It’s up to the volunteers to identify whether they are capable of performing the required tasks.
We offer short term programs ranging from 1 to 4 weeks, as long term placements up to 3 months. Some projects can extend up to 6 months. Most volunteers commit to a 4 week program allowing enough time to acclimate to their new surroundings as well as complete orientation and still feel as though they made a contribution to the program.
Absolutely! As a community-focused organization, we definitely like to hear from our potential volunteers. If you think that there’s something we could be doing – and you can help us to achieve this – we’d love to hear from you. Please feel free to suggest possible volunteering opportunities that you could help out with – this is especially good for motivated, initiative-taking individuals.
Most people will sign up 3-6 months prior to traveling. You should apply no later than 30 days before your intended start date. Some exceptions can be made for last minute traveling, please contact us for more details.
Chazon Africa does not provide insurance for the simple reason that we think our volunteers should be able to decide on the nature of your coverage.
